Biosphere 2
On Saturday we went to the biosphere. The biosphere was originally built in 1989 and is over 7,200,000 cubic feet of sealed glass and 6,500 windows. It is sealed by a 500-ton welded stainless steel liner. They built it to do research and in fact for 2 years 4 men and 4 women lived in the biosphere. They had to grow their own food, and got their meat from the animals that lived there. They were basically in isolation for 2 years straight.
In the biosphere there is an
Ecosystems under the glass
There is
Ocean with coral reef
Mangrove wetlands
Tropical rainforest
Savannah grassland
Fog desert
It was a fun experience to go through it and see how it was designed, how the people lived there and it really is was incredible. When I was in 6th grade the people actually lived in the biosphere at the time when we took a field trip to see it. NO one was able to go in the biosphere because the people lived inside. Now they give tours and it is incredible. You can click on any of the pictures to enlarge:)

These are picture's of inside the biosphere

This is a huge air conditioning unit in the biosphere and it was nice and cold...it felt like we were going to get blown away:) Click to enlarge and look at how funny Brooklyn's face is.

What a fun trip! I remember going when I was in girls scouts and they were still building it, they were hoping that the team of people would last like 10yrs or something, weren't they?
